HomeRun Project: A Collaborative Step Forward in Home Health Monitoring

The HomeRun Project is a co-creation initiative between Erasmus MC and Ailin.Health, This partnership highlights the transformative power of collaboration in advancing home-based healthcare.

Since the project’s launch, it has allowed both partners to work on an international scale, establishing a strong connection that fosters innovation and incorporates the latest advances in home health monitoring. Weekly co-creation sessions have been a cornerstone of the initiative, enabling continuous exploration of new technologies and collaborative problem-solving. These sessions were pivotal in navigating the legal procedures necessary for launching the pilot study in both Spain and the Netherlands. “Collaborating across borders has been a unique challenge and opportunity,” notes the team. “It’s enabled us to merge diverse perspectives and ensure compliance with both Spanish and Dutch medical regulations.”

Challenges and Lessons Learned

Despite its successes, the project faced challenges, particularly with regulatory compliance across different countries. “In our case, the biggest challenges have been the legal hurdles we faced being located in two different countries and working with medical devices,” the team explains. These obstacles required considerable effort, but the co-creation model provided a framework for addressing them effectively. Support from the program and stakeholders proved invaluable in overcoming these barriers. “The key lesson we have learned is the importance of our strong collaboration and open communication,” the team reflects. Leveraging the collective expertise of all participants allowed them to address these complex issues and maintain progress.

Stakeholder Engagement and Feedback

Stakeholder engagement has been integral to the project’s success. Innobuyer has been a key supporter, helping to redefine the project’s objectives and adjust the timeline to meet proposed goals. “The feedback we’ve received from Innobuyer has been instrumental in shaping the direction of the program,” the team acknowledges. This collaborative approach ensured that all parties were aligned, fostering confidence in the project’s long-term potential.

Future Plans

During the pilot phase the focus is on gathering feedback from participants about their experiences with capillary blood sampling and home monitoring. These insights will be vital in refining the technology, improving the user experience, and enhancing the project’s overall impact. The pilot phase is just one part of a larger vision. “We have established short- and medium-term goals together, so there are still many important steps ahead as we continue to collaborate and develop this initiative further,” the team explains.

While still in its early stages, the HomeRun Project has the potential to significantly impact healthcare by enabling patients to receive personalized care from the comfort of their homes. This not only enhances convenience but also fosters a more patient-centered approach to healthcare delivery.

For Erasmus MC and Ailin.Health, the program has strengthened their leadership in home monitoring and allowed them to remain at the forefront of innovation. “This program has allowed us to continue exploring the field of home monitoring, stay up to date with the latest innovations, and remain competitive in this area,” the team reflects.

The HomeRun Project exemplifies the potential of co-creation to drive meaningful innovation. By fostering strong collaboration, maintaining open communication, and leveraging shared expertise, the initiative is paving the way for advancements in home-based healthcare, benefiting both patients and the institutions that serve them.
